Hi reader,
We have a new name: The LA Local.
At a time when misinformation spreads faster than facts and Los Angeles has only 3.6 local journalists per 100,000 people, trusted local news has never been more critical. Communities need reliable information to navigate daily life, hold power accountable, and make informed decisions about their futures.
That's why we're building The LA Local—a new kind of nonprofit news organization for Los Angeles:
Community newsrooms including Boyle Heights Beat already covering the Eastside, plus new newsrooms launching in South LA and Inglewood, and Koreatown, Pico Union, and Westlake—each with reporters deeply rooted in the neighborhoods they serve.
Regional coverage connecting stories across our city, from culture and arts to enterprise reporting on issues affecting all Angelenos.
Media partnerships with LAist, CalMatters, and 20+ news organizations and universities, ensuring quality journalism reaches more people.
LA Documenters training and paying residents to cover public meetings, building transparency and civic engagement.
Youth journalism programs mentoring the next generation of diverse reporters through our high school internships.
We understand that powerful local journalism does more than inform—it empowers communities, connects neighbors, and strengthens our city. This is just the beginning.
I’m so glad you’re here,
